Dual Enrollment Program

Attention parents of 10th and 11th grade students:  Is your child excelling academically and interested in earning college credit in the 2014-2015 Dual Enrollment Program?  If so, your child must take the ASSET Placement Test on Wednesday, April 2, 2014.  The test will be given to all interested students who register in the Counseling Office located in Mod F-1.  Students must register by March 28, 2014 to take the ASSET Test - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!  Have questions, please stop by the Counseling Office in Mod F-1 or call 678-874-5432 for details.  A study guide for this exam is available by clicking here to access the " ASSET Test Study Guide."


SAT and ACT Registration

Attention Senior Parents- Friday November 8th is the registration deadline for the December SAT and ACT. This is the last chance most seniors will be able to test before college application deadlines. If your child needs to register, please visit www.collegeboard.com or www.actstudent.org for more information.

 

Freshman Conferences 

Attention 9th Grade Parents- Freshman Counseling Conferences are now underway! By now, you should have received a letter in the mail informing you of your individual counseling appointment. If you unsure of your appointment time or need to reschedule, please call the MLK Counseling Office (678) 874-5432.

 

Registration for Spring DOLA (online) courses

Attention Junior and Senior Parents--Registration for Spring DOLA (online) courses will be held December 2- January 27. If your child needs to make up a course required for graduation, please see your child's counselor to register. Courses cost $250 per half-unit.

 

PSAT-10/16/2013

 The PSAT will be given to all enrolled 10th grade students at MLK High School on Wednesday, October 16th, 2013.  Practice books will be distributed in students' World Literature classes by Friday, September 27th.  Please use these books to help your child prepare for this important test.  9th and 11th grade students interested in registering to take the test should stop by the Counseling Office (Mod F-1) to register for the test September 30th-October 4th.  Registration fees are $15 per student.  For more information, please visit www.collegeboard.org.

 

Welcome to the 2013-2014 School Year!

 

A new school year is set to begin on August 12th!  During the weeks of August 5th-9th and 12th-16th, please be mindful that the counseling team is processing new students and will not be available to schedule parent conferences.  If your child is in need of schedule change, please submit a signed Schedule Change Request Form available here and in the Counseling Office.  Schedule change requests cannot be processed over the phone.  We look forward to working with you!

SAT Waivers

SAT waivers will be available in the counseling center starting Monday, August 19, 2013.  Students may sign up in the counseling center with Mrs. Presley by placing their name on the request list.  Students must recieve free or reduced lunch in order to qualify.  Waivers are available on a "first come, first served basis."  For more questions, call 678-874-5432.

Summer School Update


Attention all students and parents: Summer School registration will begin May 1st.  If you have failed a course needed for graduation, please see your counselor starting May 1st to sign up!  Summer School will be held online (DeKalb Online Academy) and here at MLK.  See your counselor for details.

MLK Tutorial Sessions


In an effort to improve student achievement and enhance academic performance, Martin Luther King, Jr. High Scool will now offer tutorials for all core content areas:  Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies.  These tutorials will be made available in addition to the current tutorials offered.  The tutorials will begin the week of March 18th and will take place on Tuesday and Thursday after school from 4:00pm until 5:30pm.  Additionally, tutorials for students failing one or more classes will take place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the upcoming months from 9:00am until 11:00am

Did you miss COMPASS Testing on March 7th?  If so, good news!  Georgia Piedmont will return to MLK next month to offer testing again.  If you are interested in earning college credit now, the Dual Enrollment Program may be a great fit for you!  Stop by the Counseling Office by March 25th to sign up!  See your counselor for more details. College Credit Now/COMPASS TEST Info (March 7, 2013)

Attention Seniors!!!

Please stop by the counseling office by Thursday, February 28, 2013 to make sure we have the correct spelling of your full name for your high school diploma.  The counseling department will not be responsible for incorrect diplomas at graduation.  See Mrs. Presley in the counseling office for more information.

SAT DAY @ MLK April 17, 2013

 

Attention Juniors and Junior Parents:  Did you know that MLK will offer the SAT to all Juniors for FREE on April 17, 2013 during the school day?  This is a GREAT opportunity to take the first step in the College Application Process!  Registration will occur during the school day  March 6-14 in your English class.  See your English teacher for your scheduled registration day.  In order to register for the April 17th test, you must have an account set up on the College Board website.  Please see the attached directions for setting up your account: How to Create A College Board Account   Got to http://sat.collegeboard.org/home to set up your account before March 6th.  It's never to early to start studying for the test!  Click this link for free online test prep from the College Board: Official SAT Practice Test and also be sure to visit the SAT resources featured on our Resources Page.

FAFSA HELP SESSION-3/17/2013

Parent Portal Informational Night-February 19, 2013

 

Parents: Do you want to keep track of your child's grades and attendance on a daily basis?  Then join us on 2/19/2013 at 6:30pm to learn more about the ESIS Parent Assistant.
